Show and Tell - Sept. 28, 2008
This is an image of DH and I right after we closed on our house. The place was a wreck, slathered from top to bottom with any combination of wood paneling, wallpaper, mint green paint and fake stone finishes. Underneath all of that we have uncovered plaster walls and beautiful inlaid hardwood floors.
Buying our house was step one in building a family. On the day we signed those papers, we knew finishing the house meant we could start trying for a family. We were so clueless. We had no idea how hard the renovations would be - both to the house and my faulty parts. That was almost three years ago.

I am staring at the exact same wood paneling- it's still in the basement although it's finally gone from the kitchen & the nursery room (it was lime green in there though) We closed almost exactly 4 years ago & still have the kitchen to finish, the bathroom to do, and of course a nursery as well. It never ends! Not to discourage you at all... ;o)
The important stuff gets done & the rest gets sorted out.
Love the picture though- I can't find our before pictures and I wish I had them.
I can only imagine how much work it was to redo the house. Maybe one week you could do before and after renovation pics for show and tell. I'd love to see it.
Congrats on your pregnancy. Your due date is my birthday.
8 years in to the homeownership thing and I've painted a few walls. Hubby has redone the whole kitchen (God love him!), but I prefer to just enjoy the memories we are making. I finally figured out it will never be exactly the way I want it ( and BTW "interior decorator" is NOT in my resume!)
Good luck...it will all get done.
Thanks for sharing, I remember our first day as home owners. After signing a whole Staples store worth of paper we were given the keys to our home. We also moved into a home that was built and decorated before we were born. We are still working towards making it "us" and hopefully by next year we will have a baby and a nursery too.
before and after pictures are great aren't they!? Mum and Dad have some photos of a very ripped out downstairs (a house that is approximately 300 years old) and they look rather horrible! But the result was worth it!
That's quite a combination. Glad that you found some nice surprises under the tacky, instead of more yuckies!
Oh my. That's quite the paneling and brick work. Do we get to see after pictures next week?
Great picture, reminds me of Grant's American Gothic painting. Thanks for a cute Show and Tell.
Wow- you have done so much to your home! I love your renovation pictures so this show and tell was really fun to see!
I really hope you are feeling okay. Show us some diaper covers when you are finished with them!
